The Laval Rowing Club

A non-profit organization founded in 1962, the Laval Rowing Club has existed since 1956 and operates on the Rivière des Prairies in Chomedey, Laval. At its founding, the club was known as the Montreal Rowing Club. The club changed its name at the founding of the city of Chomedey and took its current name during the merger of the towns of Île Jésus.

Founded by a group of Europeans, the Club was located in the backyard of the leader of the founding members, a German gentleman named Albert Conrad. Since its founding, the Club has been part of the Quebec Rowing Association (AQA) and the Eastern Rowing Association (ERA), which consists of the rowing clubs of Brockville, Cornwall, Ottawa, Kingston and Peterborough. Today, the ERA includes additional clubs, including nine clubs in Quebec.

The Club has won the Comstock Trophy four times as the best club in the ERA. Members of the Laval Rowing Club have also won several titles at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, and the Canadian Secondary School Championships. The Club has also seen several of its members wear the colors of Canada in international regattas.

Volunteers built the current building of the Laval Rowing Club in 1972, following a fire that completely destroyed the old wooden shed. In 1985, the City of Laval added a second hangar. In the winter of 2007-2008, major renovations were made to modernize the locker room and the training room.

The Laval Rowing Club has a fleet of 39 boats to serve its members. Of these, there are boats for beginners, recreational practice and competition.

The Laval Rowing Club has several programs to meet the interests of its members. Determining the appropriate program for each members depends on his or her rowing experience, age, and fitness level. We have programs for everyone!
